Crackles are not normal.

There are many etiologies for crackles including pulmonary edema from heart failure or some other cause, lung infiltrate, etc. The patient's other signs and symptoms usually helps to figure out the etiology of the crackles. Sometimes, a chest x-ray is also needed.

Short term, the best indicator of what it means is your performance status - do you have any shortness of breath or discomfort?
