Crackles...: Crackles are an abnormal lung sound heard while listening over the lung fields with a stethoscope as the patient breathes in deeply. There are many etiologies for crackles including pulmonary edema from heart failure or some other cause, lung infiltrate, etc. The patient's other signs and symptoms usually helps to figure out the etiology of the crackles. Sometimes, a chest x-ray is also needed.
