how big is a tick bite that can cause lyme disease? i have a bite, but am not sure if its from a tick. what do tick bites look like?

Let me help: A small, red bump may appear at the site of the tick bite. This small bump is normal after a tick bite and doesn't indicate lyme disease. However, over the next few days, the redness may expand forming a rash in a bull's-eye pattern, with a red outer ring surrounding a clear area.

Appearance varies: A tick bite can be invisible after the tick detaches, or leave a red spot. When lyme is in the tick, often (but not always) a red rash spreads out in a circle (can be other shapes too) and is often clearing from the center outward. Called a "bull's eye" rash because of its appearance.

Probably not Lyme: Your Western Blot would need to be above 5 for a conclusive confirmation of Lyme disease. Unless you also had known tick bite, low-grade fever, "erythema migrants", you probably had a viral illness that should resolve on its own. Do discuss this with your primary medical provider or specialist if symptoms persist.

Almost never occurs: Eye symptoms can very rarely occur in lyme disease but blindness is incredibly rare.

Lyme person to perso: Yes.  Lyme disease can be transmitted via blood to blood transmission and through sexual transmission.

Yes: There is every reason to believe that lyme disease can be transmitted via blood transfusion. This does not mean that someone with lyme will always transmit it; in patients with lyme PCR tests are often negative, meaning it is not always present in the blood, but it is at times and in that case is almost certain to be transmitted.Certainly some with lyme don't know it & donate blood & transmit it.

Clinical: Lyme is still a clinical diagnosis. Labs fail to detect up to 30% of cases. Chronic lyme can be treated by a doctor knowledgable in treating lyme.

Ask the team: Talk to the transplant team.   The laws about transplant safety don't specifically exclude Lyme Disease.  https://www.cdc.gov/transplantsafety/overview/faq.html This article says that there was a least one donor caused Lyme infection, but does not say the tissue source.https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1600-6143.2011.03493.x
However, you need to  tell them about it  up front.

Yes: Lyme disease can cause symmetric polyarthralgias - pain in numerous joints on both sides of the body.  Although rare, lyme disease is usually easy to treat if identifed quickly.  There are blood tests so if you and your dr have a concern, it shoud be pretty quick to rule in/out.

Yes: Generalized aching is a symptom of primary lyme disease. However, swelling of multiple joints is not. If the small joints (hands and feet) are involved it is virtually never going to be lyme disease.
