Pap smears at 61: Without the use of estrogen in the vagina or otherwise, it is not uncommon to have an "atrophic" pap smear at age 61 as there is no vaginal cell stimulation by the hormone. The 2nd pap smear may also be atrophic. If you have had regular negative pap smears yearly, (3 or more) then new ACOG recommendations may forego the need for further testing. Talk to your GYN MD about this subject.

Low estrogen: What you described is consistent with atrophy of the vaginal lining due to low estrogen. It is expected in a post-menopausal woman. If you have any symptoms, discuss taking hormones, with your doctor.

Not cancer: Needs to be repeated when the cycle of cells in the cervix has shed in 3-4 months and will probably be normal.

Low estrogen: Atrophic patterns on pap smears are usually associated with decreased estrogen levels.  Low estrogen levels are found in women that are either going into, or already in menopause.

: You do not need to take hormones for this result. If you do not have menopausal symptoms, it would be advisable to not take medication that you do not need.

Normal: As long as the HPV testing is negative your risk of cancer is vanishingly small. ASCUS is the  " we're just not sure" category and in your case is almost certainly due to the atrophy. Hope this is reassuring

One year: This sounds pretty good you should not be worried those findings are typical for postmenopausal women and they are consistent with a healthy woman's findings.

Bleeding: Your gynecologist should investigate during your exam. Very unusual.  Possible trauma?

Does not add up: What you provided is not a usual PAP smear result. It would be useful to talk to the pathologist who signed out the pap smear.
