mri spine shows tiny hyperintensities in cerebral white matter. my neuro said she couldnt even see them on cd but now i need an mri of brain. whole thing started with tingling on bottom of feet. terrified of it being ms?

Sort out: MS is a clinical diagnosis, which can be confirmed by characteristic MRI patterns in both brain and spinal cord.  Sounds like lesions seen incompletely in brain indirectly, and not in spinal cord.  The foot tingling could be due to peripheral nerve issues, not MS.  Sometimes, a second opinion can resolve confusing clinical pictures.

Possibly: But not definitively! needs contrast to better define the location and extent.

TBI brain holes.: Without seeing the MRI cannot say. But suspect part of your brain is dead there from TBi. But can be due to many other things such as high blood pressure.

can a spinal tap show something a mri cant show? are there any other test that can be done to explain burning sharp back pain? i had a mri of brain, neck and whole spine with explanation as to why and im in severe pain and cant even bend?

: Yes. There are medical conditions that might cause findings in spinal fluid that do not show up on MRI, CT, or X-rays. If your doctor has advised lumbar puncture (LP, "spinal tap"), you should agree. It may sound frightening ("needle into the spine"), but LP is not very painful and has little risk of harm. Enhancement: Contrast helps the MRI study by determining if there is any abnormal contrast accumulation called "enhancement". Enhancement can occur in the presence of infection, inflammation, and tumors. The contrast is very safe in patients who have normally functioning kidneys. So, contrast helps the MRI give maximum information.

if stroke like symptoms were caused by cervical artery dissection, would this show up in mrv and mri of brain. or only a scan of neck?

Depends on timing: A CT or MRI can detect changes of edema (fluid) due to cell death within the brain.  Often by the time these changes are seen, it is late in the process.  Also this would tell us the arterial territory involved, but not that it is a result of dissection.  Emboli or thrombus of an artery are more common causes of stroke.  A carotid dissection is less common, though more common in vertebral artery.

diagnosed w/ vestibular neuritis on left ear, i got tinnitus, mri of brain shows no issues.  since then right eye a bit blurry, is there a connection?

Probably not: There is no direct connection between the vision of one eye and the ear (vestibular system), so it seems unlikely that there is a relationship.  However, if you are still having some jumping of eyes (nystagmus) from the vestibular neuritis, you might note visual blurring, but in BOTH eyes, though you might perceive it as only one eye.  If this is the case, this symptom will gradually resolve.

are paresthesias along with loss of sensation in legs, burning in head a sign of a stroke? can an mri of brain detect previous strokes?

Accepted Answer

MRI is best : Stroke symptoms are variable but a brain MRI will detect even very small stokes almost immediately.  Ct scanning, although cheaper and faster, can miss small strokes or very early strokes.
