Normal blood type: Rh factor refers to one of two major blood groups for all blood types. People are either rh positive or rh negative. It is important to know your rh status for receiving blood products. Rh determines blood compatibility and is neither good or bad.

Not likely: Blood types are determined by testing the blood sample in specific ways. If you had a blood tests for other purposes, the blood was not sent for typing; that's not a standard procedure.  However if the lab still has some leftover blood, it could be tested for typing if your doctor ordered it.  Who will pay if this is not medically indicated? Your insurance co likely won't.

Details matter: We do not do those tests without a very good reason. Doing extra tests uses up our patients' and our community's money, which means there is less remaining to care for us when we get sick. If there is an "illness reason" or an important "preventive care" reason, then doctors will order the tests. "For a first time visit" can mean very different things for different people. Details matter.

Not the problem: I'm sorry for the loss of your unborn child. One man in around six in the us is rh negative and this wasn't the cause; there can be problems if he is positive and you are negative especially if there's noncompliance but you'd have been told about this. "rare blood type" may be hyperbole; there are hundreds of subtypes of blood & if you can find his variant we can help you find resources.

Yes but: be sure to see a doctor when it is time for her to have a baby. She will need an injection of a drug called RhoGam at delivery in order to prevent her from forming antibodies against the Rh factor, preventing future pregnancies. Hope this helps!

Rh : Rh antigens are present in every blood. You would need to be more specific. Also, they blood type (a, b, ab, 0) is not connected/related to the rh + or rh - types; they are inherited independently.

Many: A+, a-, b+, b-, ab+, ab-, o+, o-. If you are getting a blood transfusion, there are many other factors to take into consideration. Kell, lewis, and other factors have to be matched so that there won't be a reaction. Without a perfect match, you may have a big problem in a transfusion situation.
