Several things: Interstitial markings in lungs are characterized by lines and dots with disease processes affecting the intersititium.Interstitium, lace-like network of tissue that extends throughout both lungs, provides support to the lungs alveoli. Tiny blood vessels travel through  interstitium, allowing gas exchange between blood and  air. Fibrosis or scarring, infection, changes from smoking.Asbestosis, etc.

Depends on context: The interstitium of the lung refers to the area in and around the blood vessels and alveoli (air sacs). This is where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. Inflammation and scarring of the interstitium disrupts this tissues. So the radiologist is noting that there appears to be increased markings in the area. There are many different conditions and disease that cause this pattern.

Increased interstitial markings bilaterally "MAY" reflect  in PAST inflammation or irritation (for example a CHEMICAL exposure) or in rare cases be ASSOCIATED with some chronic disorders.,, IN SHORT this should be evaluated with special imaging/ blood tests..FOLLOW your Health Provider's suggestion(s) and REMEMBER

Discuss with Ur doc: Increased interstitial markings are a non-specific finding.They can be caused simply by a kid not taking a deep enough breath to match the standard film.They can represent minor changes in a respiratory infection or asthma.There must have been a reason to get the films in the first place.I would ask the kids doc what they think of the pattern &amp; go from there. Its easy to worry when no one explains

It is an xray: finding, not a specific diagnosis.  There are numerous potential acute and chronic processes that can produce this finding. So your doctor needs to determine the underlying cause, and treat that.

: It means you have scarring in your lung, probably from sarcoidosis.  It needs to be followed by a Pulmonologist and treated if it appears to be progressing.

Yes: Several reasons come to mind. Chf: many of the chemotherapies esp with radiation can cause cardiomypathy. Radiation: can cause pneumonitis. Cancer can present as lymphangitic spread in the lungs infection: after cancer treatment there is immunosuppression. Please discuss it with your doctor.

Yes or no: As cancers spread in the lungs, they can cause what we call lymphangitic spread of disease. Those lymph vessels are along the blood vessels and yes they can look like increased interstitial markings. To make a decision from that alone would be difficult unless a mass is seen or a diagnosis established beforehand. Even radiation pneumonitis looks the same. Decisions are made from previous diagnosis.

Causes vary, depending on age, symptoms, and known or suspected illnesses.
