Lesions: See dermatology to have them burned off with liquid nitrogen. If suspicious for cancer consider biopsy or circumcision if they are on foreskin would potentially be equivalent to wide resection. Stay calm and start with Dermatology.

HPV : Hpv may lie dormant for an extended period of time, and you may never experience an outbreak of 'abnormal' cells. Nonetheless, you will always be a carrier of hpv. If your immune system weakens for any reason, this could cause your hpv count to rise. Observe a healthy lifestyle and get pap smears regularly.

2nd opinion: This problem can only be solved by seeing your doctor and being evaluated face-to-face.  After a thorough examination, your doctor should be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.

HPV-warts removal: There is currently no effective treatment for hpv, but some have warts, as a result of hpv infections, which can be removed with medications or burned off. Otherwise, the best treatment is preventing the infections--vaccines and use of protection such as condoms. Consult doc. Good luck.

Good question: People frequently interpret abnormal pap smears as showing effects of hpv without actually testing for hpv and convey this to patients as being + for hpv.  Actual testing for high risk hpv combined with pap became a screening alternative in 2004 and incorporated into guidelines in 2006.  In 2012, combined pap/hpv testing every 5 yrs became the preferred screening for women over 30.

HPV iS FACT: Hpv infection is real. Cervical cancer is something that preventable and should be eradicated in the usa because we can screen them and because of hpv vaccination. Hpv is also associated with head and neck cancer and anal cancer.
A fact that you need to know that the incidence of oral cancer increases for the last several years -majority in younger people and 90% is related to hpv infection.

Be Pro-active: I've always been an advocate of patient education. There are so many possible complications of hpv, including very uncommon ones like laryngeal involvement, that i've always urged folks to read up, even in books like harrison's internal medicine. Even we can't remember them all during the short time that our crazy health care system gives us to spend with you. I'm glad you're proactive -- & thanks.

Primary vs secondary: People will often clear the primary stage of HPV within two years if they have a normal immune system. As you say, it then can hibernate in your body for life  produce problems later. Your issue is with a difference in how you use terminology. Clearing the first stage is just that, it does not mean eliminating the germ.

HPV: Nope. But 95% of the hpv strains that cause cancer are now preventable with the vaccine known as gardisil.

Depends on sites : For cervical study the pap smear is the routine. For other sites a physician can paint the area with a high concentration peroxide solution and areas invaded by the hpv virus can show up white against a healthy background. Biopsy's can be taken to confirrn  the lesion or they can be treated as part of the  diagnostic procedure.Blood tests can reveal if you have antibodies to the germ.
