Could be infection.: A high band count usually refers to how many white blood cells are actively maturing.  When the band count is high, it usually refers to an escalating infection, or due to some other major stress.  Talk to your doctor to find out why.  Uncontrolled infections can be life-threatening.

Immature cells: Bands are the immature white blood cells, their presence can mean many things, but we typically find them elevated in acute infection, in the sense that in an acute infection your bone marrow is pumping out so many white blood cells to fight infection that it start pumping out immature ones "bands".

Need more info: I am assuming that you had a serum electrophoresis performed for one reason or another. The "normal" and "abnormal" in this case can only be judged in context rather than in absolutes, so more information is necessary. Did you have a urine electrophoresis? Any other results? Free light chains? Did your doctor state that you have protein in the urine?

Spinal fluid: Oligoclonal bands in CSF when not in serum suggests  immunoglobulins are produced in CNS. It is normal to subtract bands in serum from bands in CSF when investigating CNS diseases, and O bands are an important indicator in the diagnosis of MS. Approximately 79%-90% of patients with MS have permanent O bands. A high IgG index also suggest antibodies in CSF which may be due to MS.

white blood cell bands increased for the last 3 months. it was 8, then 10, now 12. i haven't had fever or infection. could this mean cancer is back?

Need more info: Not likely to have recurrence based on your band count.  Since you have had no fever or evidence of infection, you hopefully have had a good careful physical exam. Possibly : Those little white spots that you mention are common as we age. Without having seen them it is difficult to say but can be many different things. But certainly lupus celebrities is always at least a thought. If all  your tests point to lupus then this would as we say consistent with that. If not then what these white spots may be should widen. CIS: Lhermitte's sign is consistent with spinal cord lesion, and bands are about 95% predictive of onset of clinically definite ms in future, but if no lesions seen on either mri, it is not fully clear that your future deflinitely involves ms.  If no symptoms, recommend supplementing vitamin d-3, approx 5000 units twice daily (level 50-60 ng/ml), and repeating mri's in 6 months, and if spots, start med.

i had  blood work done and my bands came back as 15. and wbc was 2.0 and rbc was 3.57 and platelets was 92.should i see a doctor soon or is this norma?
