i have long thick hair i get ingrown hair on my scalp all the time i have used many shampoos nothing works i have to tweeze them out. help!

Two suggestions: 1. Consult a Dermatologist who will evaluate your posblem
2. Find a Beautician/Cosmetologist  (the Dermatologist may have some recommendations)
in the meantime...do not wear anything on your head (hats are a no no!

are carbuncles only caused by ingrown hairs? i used to get carbuncles from ingrown hairs but are those the only things that can cause a carbuncle?

Yes: A carbuncle is a large area of multiple infected hair follicles.  It was more common in past times before antibiotics.  Infections of the hair follicles do not have to be associated with ingrown hairs.

i've had a cyst caused from ingrown hair for years. ocassionaly it will get inflamed and it'll pop and puss will come out. what do i do?

Cure: minor surgical eval/cystectomy. Surgery should be done when cyst is not infected.
