Wear gloves: Wear rubber gloves to wash dishes and protect your hands from the hot water and soaps.  You may need to wear white cotton gloves inside the rubber gloves.

Try lotion: Warm water and soap remove the oils in your skin. This may lead to red chapped skin. In some, this can be quite severe and is called dyshidrotic eczema. Things that can help: Avoid getting soap on your hands, wear kitchen gloves when washing, apply hand lotion after washing.

can i get rabies from bringing in my trash cans? raccoon got in trash a couple of weeks ago and i always have cracks in my hands from washing dishes

No: In order to get rabies you need to have been bitten by the animal and it's infected saliva being introduced underneath your skin.  Just make sure to wash up, but you needn't worry about rabies from the trash can itself.

Recommendation : So far, you need a watchful observation, you have to figure out if this occurred after a busy day, or related to some form of excitement, or frustration. If it happens again, and you will figure out the relation to something or nothing, you must visit your primary doctor, and they will figure out what work up you require.

Check vaccine status: Check your vaccine status.  You probably have had your routine tetanus shots.  You need to get a booster at least every ten years.  If there were truly rust on the knife, I might consider getting a booster tetanus vaccine, but would be more concerned about infection from cleaning meat and then having a knife injury.  Let your doctor see you.

No risk, no worries: First, these infections are not transmitted through wounds, only by swallowing contaminated food or liquids. Second, diswashing detergent kills these an most other bacteria and viruses. So nothing to worry about.

Raynaud's: First i would consider an allergic reaction to the detergent. Other possibility is raynaud's phenomenon in which there is an exaggerated blood vessel constriction when exposed to cold (in this case while your hands are wet). I suggest you check with your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. Hope you feel well soon.

Option: Best to see a doctor. But for over the counter option try benedryl cream or the lowest cortisone ointment for itchiness. Please read side effects and consult pharmacist before purchasing. If still itchy, must go see doctor.
