Not likely: I am not aware of any gene that selects for generalized sinus tachycardia. I am familiar with clusters of atrial fibrillation that seem famiilial.

husb has high bp, recent dx w ckd (aug creatine=1.38). his bp is usually low norm-110/65 or lower. for the past week, he has had anxiety, fast heart rate and first bp of day is 135/75, then it goes down to the norm. should we be concerned? thank you?

: A beta blocker can mitigate the rapid heart rate if it's simple sinus tachycardia and keep his BP from climbing. A nephrologist should determine the cause of the elevated creatinine and also prescribe the best medications for his BP especially if proteinuria is present.  If you feel he'd profit from stress management therapy by a mental health professional, persuade him to see one,also

Tachycardia: These symptoms indicate your heart is racing  and, together with chest pains, nausea and back pain  may
indicate a   kidney infection, heart condition, pleurisy  or a combination. I strongly urge you to see a doctor right away.

Not normal: You may want to check your temperature.  If temperature &gt; 99.5 Fahrenheit you will need to go to ED or call your surgeon.  Are your bowel movements regular?  Is your pain over the site of incision? Is there redness/swelling or white purulent discharge from the incision? Is there nausea/vomiting associated with the stabbing pain? All of these symptoms are signs of infection and/or obstruction.

It depends on cause: There are many reasons for a "fast heart beat", as well as the exact definition. Most rapid heart rates are caused by physical activity, stress/anxiety, but many may be a manifestation of underlying medical conditions (not necessarily cardiac). If the fast heart rate is from a cardiac arrhythmia (not normal), then survival is indeed a question. Excellent treatment options exist.  Consult your doc!

Who said that it is?: There is nothing intrinsically beneficial about a rapid heart rate. The heart increases the amount of blood it pumps through 2 mechanisms: stroke volume (blood pumped with each beat) and heart rate. It speeds up to meet the demands of the moment. An inappropriately fast heart rate can be a sign of illness and prolonged very rapid rates are harmful.

See an EP: If it's coming and going "at random" it's probably something called a supraventricular tachycardia (svt). A cardiologist, or better still, a cardiac electrophysiologist can get to the bottom of this with a wearable monitor device. If that's indeed what you have, a good ep can often get rid of the problem entirely.
