Emetrol: 5 ml 1/2 hour before eating or drinking. I prefer the lemon flavor but also available in cherry flavor. avoid dairy products &amp; give small sips of fluids frequently to prevent dehydration

my 2 year old has been vomiting and cant keep anything down for the past 8 hours.  what can i give at home in the meantime before morning comes to help her?

Oral rehydration: To keep your toddler hydrated, give 15ml of oral rehydration solution orally every 10 minutes. The small amount will not trigger the vomiting reflex and will build up over time and allow her to stay hydrated. It may also help with the vomiting, as it will keep something in her stomach. Do not try to give anything else until she stops vomiting.

Evaluation: She may need iv fluids and zofran to control the vomitng and to replace fluids. Continue to provide sips of clears. The cause of the vomiting should be determined. Watch for signs of focal abdominal pain and lethargy. A urine sample to rule out a UTI is indicated.

Doctor can recheck: A toddler who is throwing up, having diarrhea, and looking weak, or isn't peeing or is looking pale... generally needs rehydration, maybe getting seen in the ER to decide if IV fluid rehydration is needed. Her primary care doctor can reevaluate while she is still active and looks fairly strong; otherwise the ER should be the place to go. If very pale or very weak, one should call for an ambulance.

Maybe unrelated: Toddlers all get teeth. Toddlers all get illnesses like the stomach flu. They can happen together by coincidence, meaning the teething may not be causing the ill symptoms. So, if the ill symptoms are worrisome, a doctor can evaluate to see if there is a strep throat, an ear infection, a stomach virus, or something else.

Avoid them: Avoid all nuts until you you see an allergist and get your cold tested. Nut allergies can be life threatening and you should take precautions. Keep Benadryl (diphenhydramine) handy and if there are but allergies you should carry an epi pen as well.
