Complete exam: You can expect a complete head and neck exam. For the ear exam, a microscope may be used. For the nasal and throat exam, you may have a telescopic camera exam to look inside. If you have hearing loss or ringing in the ear, you may also expect to get a hearing test during your exam.

He/she will perform a complete head and neck exam including nose, ears, throat, vocal cords. Often a hearing test. often endoscopy of nose or throat. Xrays may be done.

should i go to urgent care for a peritonsillar abscess? i made an appointment with an ent but they can't see me until the 9th. i'm swollen and in pain

Yes but: yes this way they will start you on antibiotics, and some topical treatment until you see the specialist.
you can go to the ER, it is more expensive,but if they found out that your condition urgent and required immediate surgical intervention, they can admitt you and ask for an urgent ENT consult.
either way seeing somebody sooner will be better

i think i have swollen/enlarged nasal turbinates.  i plan to schedule a appointment with an ent but may not be able to get in for a few weeks. what can i take to reduce it? i'm 25 wks prego as well.

Nasal Issues: flonase OTC is ok and may help decrease swelling until you see the ENT

Why the check up: Why are you going to an ENT?
Depending on that they may or may not have to numb your throat.
Remember its your body and you can ALWAYS opt out of any medical advise as long as you take responsibility for your decision.

Not your cancer: Your surgeon will tell you the same thing. It'll go first to your neck. But do get that node worked up.

who in pretoria can assist me i only have keycare ,
already have a reference letter from my gp ,
now i need to source a specialist in pta ?

: I strongly urge you to be examined by an ENT or at least a regular physician for facial pain and presence of a lump in your cheek. Any facial infections or painful lesions  require accurate diagnosis and prompt proper treatment. A blocked salivary gland or an inflamed/infected cyst are possibilities here.
