what could cause a high sed rate? my sed rate is 56, doctor doesnt know why. i am overweight. does this indicate something serious?

: An elevated sed rate is a nondiagnostic finding. It signifies increased metabolic activity and/or inflammation in your body.  If you have absolutely no symptoms like low grade fever,sweats,joint pains,cough, urinary burning, etc, then your sed rate is purely nonspecific. On the other hand, if you're not feeling well your physician will determine what testing is appropriate after examining you.

Not sure: So why was the sed rate done in first place.You mentained kappa Lambda.Did theyrule out multiple myeloma.What test were done and was was c reactive protein.You mentained sepsis and that itself wpuld make it go up.Those are the doc I would see for the sed rateHow do you feel and is the sedrate trending up or down.

Yes: Any significant inflammation or infection can raise the sed rate.

No: Elevated ESR - sed rate is caused by inflammation. Although inflammation can make it difficult to lose weight, obesity doesn't by itself cause an elevated sed rate.

Sed rate: A sed rate of 30 is not too high, normal is up to around 20.  It is a lab doctors use to follow inflammation in the body, it may be high due to your hives, or arthritis, or infection, or another auto immune disease.  You do not treat a see rate, rather you look for some cause of inflammation in the body that may be triggering it to be elevated.

i'm 23 male my ra factor is 100 positive my ccp is 16 negative , sed rate 12 negative, and crp .13 negative can high blood fats cause + ra factor?

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, rheumatoid factor is not a specific marker for rheumatoid arthritis. It can be positive in many situations, including recovery from infection. High blood fat per se is not a cause of +RA factor.

10 days post-op abd hysterectomy & ovary removal. sed rate is high at 38, bloodwork yesterday. can this be caused by the surgery? cause for worry?

Yes.: The Sed-Rate is a very non-specific test that is elevated with the body's inflammatory response.  Major surgery such as a hysterectomy does trigger the body's inflammatory response and can raise your Sed-rate.   I wouldn't worry too much about it.  You may want to repeat it in 3 months or so.

been seen by multiple doctors,i have an enlarged spleen(8cm below lcm)pancytopenia high ldh and sed rate. what could cause this, my drs are stumped

Seek tertiary care: Your symptoms are non-specific.

It could be an infection (epstein-barr virus) vs hematologic disorder vs autoimmune disorder.

A visit to a tertiary, academic center may provide further insight into your underlying diagnosis

through my back . my blood work shows high sed rate, also high rdw.
any idea what would cause  these
