Not true: Dhea is made from the adrenal gland alone (but can be sulphated in the liver). For someone with bilateral adrenalectomy you can take 50 mg of dhea supplement. This though is a supplement and so one cannot be entirely sure about the content advertized. There is limited data on the benefit but for someone like you, it may help.

Usually can: Cause irregular periods, abnormal hair growth, acne, infertility, etc. Like any other male hormone excess. Check w/your doctor.

Yes: Why are you taking dhea. It is metabolized to estrogen, cortisone or testosterone, and you can't control which it's converted to. It is not recommended therapy for any medical condition and may be harmful.

Not that high: A dhea-s of 599 (correct -comes from the adrenals) is somewhat increased but will usually not cause problems.  It would help to know the reason why it was done.  If periods are irregular other tests were probably run and if normal would be reassuring.  If periods very irregular and increased facial hair you should definitely see an endocrinologist if you have not done so to look for other things.

By itself: A high (how high) dheas level may mean nothing at all. I don't know why the level would have been drawn in the first place. It can be significantly (not slightly) elevated in a variety of ovarian or adrenal problems, including pcos. It is also stimulated by certain medications. As a solitary finding without other clinical information, however, it has no value. Talk w/the doctor who ordered it, .

Depends on levels: Dhea is the most abundant adrenal hormone. It's sulfated form is more stable. Labs are not perfect and i wonder why the level was checked in the first place. It may need to be followed and may mean nothing if she is healthy and a symptomatic, but best to have it repeated. If level is too high, more evaluation is needed.

Hormone replacement: Its never a good idea to take a hormone as a supplement unless there is a deficiency.  Even in some hormone deficiencies, the drawbacks to replacement outweigh the benefits.  While there is some limited evidence that dhea replacement can help specific groups (people with addison's disease for example), I am unaware of evidence for pregnenolone replacement.  Endocrinologists have this knowledge.
