Depends: It depends on which cough medicine. If it is a prescription cough medicine... It may have Codeine and if you are using it daily... Then addiction could be a problem. I would try to figure out what is causing the cough: asthma, acid reflux, allergies, sinususitis, rhinitis (drainage from the nose).

Medical evaluation: This certainly sounds like alleriy induced asthma- I would not advise self mediciation since you should get allergy testing and pulmonry function testing: most OTC mediciations will NOT help in these circumstances. Call for a medical appointment ASAP.

i just took some cough medicine and apparently i didn't swallow well and it caused a coughing fit and felt like my lungs were closing up. every time i breath in through my nose it causes irritation in my throat and i cough again. possibly aspirated?

: It is possible you aspirated a small amount of the cough medicine. The reflex coughing that resulted will clear most of it our of your lungs and then you should be ok since it was likely only a small amount you took. If you develop other symptoms like shortness of breath, fever, not feeling well, etc, then call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room. Good luck!

DM: Dextromethorphan (DM) is a common ingredient in cough syrups that is good for dry coughs. Also keep,the throat moist with honey, licorice, lemon drops herbal teas, and drinking water. Good luck

: You can take oral cough medicines while on a pick line. Also try honey and OTC cough drops and a humidifier at night. I hope you  feel better

Interactions: This medicine and decongestants like pseudoephedrine can increase the heart rate and blood pressure. I would avoid cold and cough medications to be safe. Instead of nasal decongestant sprays, use simple saline nasal spray or a cough syrup that your pharmacist thinks is safe for you to use.

Cough: Age of the child and presenting clinical condition are important factors to consider before answering this question.Is your child having breathing difficulty, fever, could he/she have swallowed a small object, how long has the cough been going on, is your child less than 2 years old, does he/she have asthma.Cough is a protective reflex of your large airways, a prolonged cough could be bad.Call your md.
