i take a very low dosage of spironolactone ( 25 mg twice a day) for acne purposes. i am a 20 year old girl and also take yaz birth control. am i allowed to take ashwagandha supplements to help lessened libido while taking spironolactone?

: The supplements are not regulated and you would not know what is in the preparation being sold. Many such preparations have injurious chemicals. I would recommend against taking an unregulated supplement. Talk to the doctor who prescribed spironolactone as s/he has more experience with the side effects of this drug.

Short term use OK.: Depending on the topical antibiotic, there can bee good effects on acne as one of the causatives for acne is p. Acnes bacteria species. Topical Clindamycin and Erythromycin alone do not retain their effect after about 3-4 mos but even benzoyl peroxide is consider an antibiotic and works well for long periods of time. Hence, pro-active is a hot selling item!

Depends on severity: Whether the risks outweigh the beneifts is truly a matter of severity of the disease as well as the importance to the individual. Acne is rarely, if ever, a life threatening disease. Therefore, it can essentially go untreated if it doesnt bother you. However, to others, the disease can cause great psychological distress and issues with self esteem/confidence/image. In this case, benefits may win.

Leave it on: Its helpful as a cleanser but moreso if left on the skin. Watch for dryness or irritation however.

Acne scar: Are you absolutely certain that you had a Fraxel CO2 treatment? My approach with deep ice pick scars is to reduce the depression first with subcission and filler or fat grafting or if really deep, may need central punch excision with skin grafting and then coming back later to resurface the scars with chemical peel or fractional RF due to high risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation in a fitzpatrick 5.

Seek other treatment: If you are truly allergic to aspirin, then you should avoid it. However, you should visit your physician to discuss what reaction you had to aspirin and determine if it is a true allergy or side effects.
