Rarely is it serious: &amp; yes pinched nerve causing pain into  arm is cervical radiculopathy. 90% are treated non op &amp; get better-10% require surgery with &gt; 90% success rate. Rarely do disc herniations cause any significant neurologic or nerve injuries with only 20% of herniations leading to any neurologic findings on exam.  See a neurologist, neurosurgeon, orthopedic spine surgeon or physiatrist or pain management.

Insufficient data: Does "neuro" mean neurologist or neurosurgeon? Why did you meekly accept the answer but then post here? Ask doc to explain the neuroanatomy: EXACTLY what cervical levels, roots &amp;/or nerves are affected &amp; which ones involve breathing &amp; which swallowing. Ask to review test results (MRI, CT, myelogram or EMG/NCS). Finally, if no treatment is recommended, I suggest seeking another opinion.

It can feel like : Several things but typically it will be a pain shooting down an arm if from the neck or around the ribs if from the thoracic or chest part of the spine  with or without neurologic symptoms like numbness , tingling &/or weakness & may have pain with coughing/sneezing and worse with activity & better with rest. See your physician for evaluation .  Headaches in the back of the head can also occur.
