It could be related: to a condition called patellofemoral syndrome, which occurs when the upper and lower parts of the leg are not aligned properly, putting a stress on the knee(s). This is very common in teens,especially girls. However, she may have had an injury that she doesn't recall, so I would recommend having her see her doctor or an orthopedist to be diagnosed properly.

PCL: Pcl is the strongest ligament of the knee. An injury to the PCL requires a powerful force. A common cause of injury is a bent knee hitting a dashboard in a car accident or a football player falling on a knee that is bent. Any team sports that require running and jumping can cause PCL injuries, particularly soccer, football and basketball.

Weeks: A bone bruise can take several weeks, up to 6 - 8 weeks to heal.  I would avoid sports for 1 - 2 weeks, then gradually resume, and back off again if symptoms return.  Good luck!

See doc, get rehab: Most injuries should respond to physical therapy.Don't discount the great importance to your mental and physical health from remaining active in your adulthood.Start by seeing your primary care doc and ask for a referral to physical therapy or a sports med doc. 3 weeks ago i took a knee to the forehead in a game of rugby. i suffered a concussion and have been recovering and stayin off sports. i still experience symptoms but not as often and headaches aren't as bad. i was wondering if i was able to drink

Nobody Knows: Although osteoarthritis is commonly thought of as "wear and tear, " we are learning more and more that this is also a problem of cartilage biology.  We don't understand why some people develop oa without any obvious "wear" events and others seem to tolerate a lifetime of high-intensity activity.
