2 1/2 yo has not had a wet diaper in 18 hours.  he doesn't appear to be dehydrated  or in pain and is drinking fluids.  what could it be?

Go to the ER now: It sounds like your baby is getting dehydrated. That is an emergency! Please take him/her to the ER now. He needs IV fluids ASAP.

Yes: She should be seen right away if she has not wet a diaper in that period of time. Especially if she is drinking and eating normally and not having vomiting or diarrhea as a source of fluid loss. If diarrhea, you may miss urine in diaper mixed in. Please have her seen by a doctor and get her checked for kidney function and to see if her bladder has urine.

If at all ill - ER!: If a newborn without a wet diaper for 24 hours is acting at all sick or lethargic, go immediately to see a physician. Newborns can get very sick very fast and one sign can be no urine output. It is unusual for a healthy newborn not to have a wet diaper for this long if breast or bottle feeding normally. They often have a bowel movement and urine after eating as a natural reflex.

Dehydration : Teething should not be directly  the reason for lack of urinations , it's possible he did not eat or  drank any  thing , that leads to dehydrating  child , .

Not if eating well: Babies start to urinate less often as they get older; initially, they wet with every feeding, but later, they sleep more deeply and may wet less often.  If he is eating well and seems comfortable, you can wait and see what happens.  If he does not void at least 2-3 times in 24 hours, call  your doctor.

Hard to say: Unless you use cloth, it is hard to say if they wet or not unless you weigh the diaper.Most available disposables are designed with material woven into the fabric that pulls away moisture.If concerned, a square of toilet tissue placed over the genitals will show evidence of a wet when checked. If the kid is otherwise thriving, this is probably ok.

Depends: Modern diapers have wick like capabilities that pull moisture away from the skin. If your diapers have this capabilities they may last for a while. However, the longer a moist diaper remains close to the skin, the more likely the skin is to break down and become inflamed/infected. You sort it out over time with your own experience.

Yes: Yes it is advisable to wipe the area clean as it may be due to urine
