Depends: Life expectancy of West Syndrome depends on the underlying cause.If there are other underlying brain disorders, then the prognosis is worse.  If the cause is "unknown", the prognosis is better  It is also better if it presents after age 4 months,  is treated right away and if the patient has good response to the treatment. About half live  20 yrs.

Down syndrome brains are shaped slightly differently from the rest of us and almost all of them have less volume in the front, which tends to be squared. Might it be that she has always been like this?
