Get tested: If you think you may have been exposed to HIV don't guess.  Get tested.  It is important to deal with this before it becomes advanced.  There are many causes of the symptoms you described.  If you both developed the same symptoms at the same time then the likely answer is an infection or chemical/toxin exposure.  Your doctor can help you sort this out.  Good luck to you both.

Doctor can evaluate: Pills that are not fda approved medications can cause worry at times. Nobody knows what all the effects are, for those thousands of non-prescription products out there. Of course, the pimples could be unrelated to the pills. A primary care doctor or a dermatologist can evaluate and help diagnose the problem. If it is folliculitis, antibiotics may be needed, plus a test to culture for bacteria.

HCLF Vegan: The HCLF Vegan or fruitarian diet is a very extreme diet.  I worry about you having an eating disorder and you may be missing important dietary nutriments.  I am worried you are becoming malnourished.  You need to stop that diet and see your doctor right away.  You need a good medical workup including blood work and possibly X-rays.

Failing that, go see your family doc for prescription acne options (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/acne/basics/definition/CON-20020580). As for your weight loss, your family doc can evaluate you &amp; order appropriate tests. Good luck!

Yes, absolutely.: When a young woman loses weight so quickly, it could cause her to temporarily stop ovulating.  Without ovulation there is a reduction in  oestrogen production by the ovaries, which may lead to worsening of acne. Certain contraceptive pills may help with this - ask your doctor about this as you will need a prescription.

No: It won't touch acne. It may make you a little bit more full and you may therefore eat less. The nonsense about water helping acne derives from the prescientific notion that it "washes out poisons." your personal physician has scientific rx's that will clear acne; weight loss comes from changed lifestyle. Everyone : Everyone responds differently to the hormones in each pill. For example if i take the same pill as you, i may experience weight gain and you weight loss. I can give you some insight into my patient's experiences. For a lighter period, loloestrin, loestrin, and seasonique (period every 3 months) have been reported to me as doing this. As far as acne, many people like yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol). Weight gain and maintenance is where I have seen the most  variation. The least amount of weight gain reported to me is the nuvaring, and the most weight gain is the Depo-Provera shot. Honestly I do not recall which method caused my patients to lose weight per say.
Like i stated earlier everyone responds differently. Discuss all your concerns with your doctor and hopefully you can choose the option that is best for you.

can this be due to a hormone imbalance? what type of test should i ask my gp to perform to find out?
