STOP IT: Toprol, brand metoprolol,  is one of the medications with a long half-life that wean themselves. Unless you are on an unusually high dose, over 200mg daily, you can just stop it.

Safe.: Your doctor has replaced one beta blocker with another. Withdrawal symptoms are unlikely and you could take the bystolic as recommended. Since the dosages May be different, it is important for you to follow up with your doctor to make adjustments as needed. Sudden and abrupt withdrawal of beta blockers is not advisable.

More info: Dizzy spells can have a number of causes including tapering off metoprolol.  However, more information is needed, such as current blood pressure, other medications, new medications recently started, other disease processes going on, or even recent colds and flu's.  All of these can play a role in dizziness.  Best to follow up with your doctor so that he or she can examine you and find a cause.

Ideally yes: Abruptly stopping medicines like metoprolol can cause rebound tachycardia and hypertension (elevated heart rate and blood pressure). There may bevalid  reasons to abruptly stop the medication. Your wife sholuld discuus this with her doctor.
