Why is it weak?: The reason and severity of the weakness is a different in general use crutches to completely unload the knee for a severe injuryor for minimal weight bearing during recovery.
For minor uncomplicated weakness i would use a cane in the opposite hand.

Condition!: It is never too late to work with a therapist or personal trainer to strengthen the lower extremities and increase endurance.  This has been shown to decrease injury rates!

Yes: Weakness is most often the result of reconditioning - getting stronger requires effort by the patient to get your leg and thigh muscles strong.   When this does not work, there can be rare neurologic or muscular cases.  Again, these are rare.   Hard work is usually the answer.  Start walking, and light strengthening.  You will see results if you put in the time !  see your doc for more guidance!

Depends: It is difficult to answer which  exercises are appropriate for weak knees as it depends on muscle imbalances in one's pelvis and leg.  We would recommend an evaluation by a physical therapist to determine the specific muscle weakness that are contributing to your "weak knees".  Looking at the entire kinetic chain is most important in determining your specific exercise program.

Yes: Strengthen from "core to floor."  work on building core strength, buttock strength, and finally quadriceps (thigh muscle) strength.  A common mistake is to only focus on thigh muscle strength, but it is important to start with a strong core and buttock muscles.  Also, work on stretching such as hip flexors, hamstring, and Achilles (heel cord).

See below: Cramps are probably not due to low vitamin d levels. Low vitamin d levels can predispose you to osteoporosis which may put you at risk for a fracture but not cramping.

Symptomatic relief: A brace may help relieve your symptoms, but if your knee continues to be unstable you may need an MRI to check for ligament damage or other problems.

I : I can't tell by this info how stable or unstable you are right now.  However, i would not want to be hemodynamically unstable if i were going to fly. Fainting on an airplane can cause a lot of commotion.  If you are often feeling faint when standing, don't recommend that you fly. I do recommend that you see your doctor to find out what your health problem is.

Referal: I"m not sure what work up you have had so far, but you will also need a rheumatological work up.  They need to check for rheumatoid arthritis and several other disease that are caused by an auto immune disorder.  Your PCP should be able to do the initial work up but you might need to see a rheumatologist.
