Hard to say: Anything lasting for 2 years could be significant. The question is how high?  A common cause for slight increase in WBC and hct is heavy smoking with co level increase.

Yes.: The episodes of pain and elevated wbc, low grade temps and abnormal hida mean the gall bladder is inflamed.  The only sure cure is surgery.  If there is severe pain, fever, and or jaundice it could be an emergency situation.  Otherwise it can be more elective, but surgery will be needed.

daughter started w/pain in naval area, moved to rt side, vomitting, ct scan was "normal" wbc elevated, then came down, bowels empty, still rt painful?

Appy: We always think it appendicitis when it "presents" like this, so it might be worthwhile to keep her there and repeat the ct scan in 6-12 hours to see if there is a change and/or an ultrasound. It could also have been constipation that cleared with the oral contrast that she drank.

Chronic vaginitis: It appears that you have a chronic vaginal infection caused by the e coli germ which was probably caused by contamination with stool.Antibiotics and proper wiping technique from front to back should be very helpful.

More to story?: A slight elevation of white blood cell count, such as what you describe,  is usually not investigated with a chest X-ray and urinalysis. Perhaps there is more to the story than you have mentioned.

Biliary: Sludge is a compilation of small stones, and can certainly cause biliary symptoms. The hida scan would not necessarily be normal, if you were just having colic. Add the slight elevation in WBC and alk phos, and i believe you are having biliary symptoms. It's atypical to have llq pain with this, and my not be related.Try a low fat diet, see if improve. Surgery my be necessary. Good luck.

Infection: Appendicitis is an infection caused by bacteria. Any bacterial infection will cause an elevated wbc, the body is organizing a response to the infection.

Accepted Answer

No simple answer: The response to steroids will depend on what is driving the WBC count up, and the dose and type of steroid.  Consult your doctor as to whether you have had an appropriate response.
