can a slow heart rate cause water retention? just looking for some answers, as i have suffered for years with this problem, and know i do have a slow heart rate, also pac which they say are benign.

Generally : Generally no, as long as your heart function, specifically both the squeezing (systolic function) and relaxing (diastolic function) are normal. If those have not been evaluated previously then you can discuss getting an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) with your doctor. There are many things that can  cause leg swelling, not just heart issues, including medication side effects and  vascular issues in the legs.

Low sodium: The most important thing--almost the only thing--is to restrict the sodium content of your diet.  Sodium will cause fluid retention.

Venous insufficiency: The commonest cause is inadequacy of the tiny valves that in the veins of your lower legs allowing gravity to push fluid into the interstitial spaces of your legs when you're on your feet. Elevation and support stockings can be helpful. Do you leave an indentation in your skin when you press down on it? If not, you may not really have swelling at all. Many people think they do but, not really!

Edema: Shortness of breath despite normal echocardiogram,ekg,lung exam calls for a treadmill stress test and,if negative,pulmonary function studies. Medications like amlodipine, corticosteroids,antiinflammatories like Advil or Aleve can cause ankle edema. Taking a diuretic reverses fluid retention and lowers blood pressure. Potassium must then be monitored though.  A cardiologist is best to advise you.

Diuretics: Diurectics like Furosemide are used for fluid retention.  Talk to your cardiologist.

suffer from water retention around the heart, hashimoto's.  in furosimide for water, but this causes severe body cramping.  salt tables and potas chlor does not help with the cramps.  please assist.  if i don't drink the water tablets, i can't breath?

Cramps: Hashimoto`s is overactive thyroid infection. I suggest Litium oratate from health shop with Opti-cal one nocte. Thus you need not only Potassium, but also Magnesium. zinc and vit d-- this is all found in Opti-cal.

i was asked the reason for taking these medications; furosemide(1am 1 pm) and aldactone(water retention), clopidogrel(left heart enlargement from poor bp control), lisinopril 5mg bp. can i take the 2 furosemide once at am with aldactone and others pm?

Diuretic medication: It is best to discuss with the provider who prescribed the medication  how to best take the medication for maximal benefit and ease of compliance.

Fluid retention: Causes: congestive heart failure, nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis of the liver, certain drugs, obesity, venous insufficiency, lymphatic insufficiency ( lymphedema, ) thyroid deficiency, certain malignancies, cushinging's disease. Take your pick. You need testing to determine your cause.

Fluid: Your mother may have congestive heart failure but other problems are also possible. Best to talk to her dr. And ask what the cause of her problem is.

Doctor can evaluate: Persistent heart rate above 100 usually mean something might be wrong. Teens and adults with a bit of dehydration due to minor illnesses, or moderate dehydration due to bad stomach flu, will have higher heart rates while ill. Hyperthyroidism or anemia causes higher heart rates too. Excitement, anxiety, exercise, and heart disease all can raise heart rates. Her doctor can evaluate.
