wasp stung me on the arm, how do i get rid of this pain!?

Wasp Sting: Wash area w soap ; warm water. Apply ice in 10 min. Increments (10 on/10 off). Can try tylenol, (acetaminophen) Aspirin or Motrin for pain or Benadryl for swelling.  Elevate affected area for swelling. Make paste of 2 parts baking soda ; 1 part water ; apply. Need tetanus shot every 10 years. Throat, airway, mouth swelling or difficulty breathing? Call 911!

Don't know: When it happened but it is not uncommon for the whole foot to swell. If it has been more than a few days you might need antibiotics. Remember the best first side for a sting is household ammonia. It not an allergy when the part of the body next to the sting swells but if your arm swelled after your foot was stung then it would be. Hope you feel better.

At least for 4-6 hrs: Most serious reactions will occur immediately or within the first 30 minutes. However reactions can be delayed and you want to stay alert and vigilant for many hours after multiple stings.

Wasp Sting: Normal sting symptoms may include pain, itching, swelling, redness ; tenderness of the affected area. Severe allergic reactions may present with swelling of tongue, mouth, lips or throat; difficulty swallowing ; breathing, wheezing, tightness of the chest, hives, generalized weakness, confusion ; slurring of speech. If you present with allergic symptoms or signs of infection - be concerned.

Use EpiPEN, (epinephrine) call ER.: You may have no problem with this, but if you have an allergy or you think you do, my advice is to get to an er asap.  They will give you Epinephrine so you don't go into anaphylactic shock, which can close your airway and kill you.  After this episode is over, you might want to see your doctor and get an epipen, (epinephrine) which is a shot of Epinephrine you can give yourself quick if this happens again.

Breathing problems: Biggest worry with any kind of allergic reaction is breathing problems. If there is swelling of the face, lips, or eyes then go to the er or doctor immediately. If wheezing or labored breathing or gasping for air then call 911/go to er.
However most stings just cause an local reaction at the site of the sting - swelling, pain, redness, warmth. Treat with cold compress, tylenol, (acetaminophen) and Benadryl cream.

Yes: Being stung is painful.  Some insects hurt more than others.  

The last time i was stung by a yellow jacket it hurt for about 3 days.

If you are not allergic to the insect sting you should not have any physical distress or have any lasting problems.

Accepted Answer

Wasp sting: A wasp sting swells because the sting is accompanied by release of a venom which produces inflammation at the site of the sting.  This causes the swelling.
