i've been to the doctor six times in the last month.  i've been diagnosed with strep, bronchitus, sinus inf., thrush, rad, chronic cough and walking pneumonia. i still have a violent cough though.

Diagnostic eval: If your symptoms persist, ask your physician to consider referring you for pulmonary function testing (if that has not been performed.)  some people have "cough variant asthma".  Your doctor may not hear wheezing, but you may still have sufficient airway inflammation to result in chronic cough.  If you have cough variant asthma, there are effective therapies available.

There are many causes of prolonged cough, and among these is bronchospasm. Use humidified air, nasal saline and please follow up.

Very different: Telling "walking" pneumonia from bronchitis is often straightforward. Cough with no fever for 6 weeks is very typical of bronchitis. Pneumonia of any kind will almost always have a fever. Pneumonia also has very distinctive features on a chest x-ray. This is why docs always wanna take a chest x-ray on kids with cough and a fever. See your doc for diagnosis and treatment.

There are many problems that could be going on - common things being walking pneumonia, bronchitis, allergies or gastroesophageal reflux but less common and more serious causes could be tuberculosis or congestive heart failure.  Evaluating your other pertinent symptoms and listening to your lungs can help deliniate the cause of your cough and hopefully get you the treatment you need to feel better.  Give your doctor a call. Nose mucus: There is a good chance you have a chronic subacute sinus infection.  There are saline solutions that can be used to rinse out the nasal passages through the nose and out the mouth.  Takes practice, and will clean out the nares so the sinuses can drain.  Mucinex (guaifenesin) OTC taken with extra water orally all day.  Seeing you Dr is also important, my need an antibiotic.  Use a cool mist humidifier at night.
