my fianc might have hepatitis a, we won't know for 48 hrs. i was vacc'd for travel in 2006. should i go get the vacc again?

No: If you completed the hep a series (2 shots) then there is no need to be revaccinated. If you didnt complete the series, then you may benefit from gamma globulin injection if he really does have hep a.

can you get diabetes from following a low carb/ low diet? i'm currently on a vlcd and have a family history of diabetes.

Weight issue: Fh of diabetes is not destiny, but predisposition. In most, is associated with overweight. Key factor is keeping lean and close to ideal body wt. Cut out sweets, junk, minimize alcohol, stay vigorously active, watch portion size. Be on a diet you can stay on for the long term.

Symptoms? Concern?: In general, a low resting heart rate is beneficial (people live longer with low resting heart rates! - you only get so many heart beats in your life!). Unless you are having symptoms from the low heart rate, or are concerned about it for other reasons, there's not much to worry about. how can i avoid getting kidney stones or gallstones on a vlcd? why causes these to occur? is it the weight loss itself that causes this?

Stones and VLCD: Kidney stones should not occur on a VLCD if you drink plenty of liquids, and assuming you do not have an abnormality in calcium metabolism.  Gallstones are different. Less food= less bile = sludge and small stones, which can occasionally cause colic. The risk is small, but ursodiol can prevent this. Talk to your doc.  Gallstones are common; you may have before you start the diet.

recovering from rubella. was not vacc'd as a child due to allergy. rash is gone now but i have severe dizziness, headache, neck pain. is this normal?

Rubella?: Rubella characteristically lasts only about 48 hours, and symptoms are usually gone prior to the rash disappearing.  Dizzyness, headache and neck pain can be symptoms of viral or bacterial encephalitis, so see an internal medicine physician or go to an emergency room to make certain.

First trimester scre: You must have a NT ultrasound test and that is combined with a blood sample. You cannot take one or the other out of the equation. Please wait for your test results to come back.

See below: The short answer is yes, it is within normal. However, it is a bit more complicated than that. The NT is one factor in assessing the risk of having a chromosomal abnormality. If you are 22 years old with an NT of 2 mm, you would get a different risk than a 45 yr old with an NT of 2 mm. There are other factors as well and the data is combined with blood work.

Within 3 wks: This is a rough guideline that obstetricians follow after 20wks. A three week discrepancy is acceptable and if greater, should prompt need for ultrasound evaluation.

nuchal thickness 9.2mm in 28 wks is it down?

Possible: A nuchal thickness of greater than 6 mm is associated with Down's syndrome. This is just a screening tool, however, and does not mean the baby has it. you need to talk with your OB about further testing.
