Oral bcp's are the best treatment, unless pregnancy is desired, which may require other kinds of medications. The bcp's will also prevent later cancer of the uterus (constant estrogen stimulation of the uterine lining without ovulation).

Metformin is at the foundation of treating insulin resistance with medication.  I recommend that you talk to your PCP  or get referred to an endocrinologist for further discussion of this.
