Both are needed: Studies show that both Vitamin A and D3 are necessary for immune response. Deficiency in either one along with high levels of the other can cause hypervitaminosis syndrome where the immune system is actually depressed. Recommendations from the US Institute of Medicine suggest an average daily intake of 400–800 IU Vitamin D, and 700-900 mcg/day of Vitamin A. Of course a well balanced diet is vital.

I would: While not super high, 2000 IU of vitamin D3 does exceed the recommended dietary allowance of 600 to 800 IU for adults. In addition, any time you get a reaction after you begin a new medication or supplement, you should stop, if safe, to see what effect that has. I can't explain why you may have the breakout, but no harm in stopping to see what happens. Good luck!

Very unusual: Unless it is for a very short duration (cpl weeks, max) to address a perceived or known deficiency, i haven't found any literature to support it--only that it can cause high blood calcium levels, nausea, weakness, kidney injury. Try 5000 iu/day: Most adults need to take 5-8000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels, which are 50-80.  Everyone in US should take Vit D3 in fall and winter months as it is impossible to get D from the sun at that time. If you get enough sun in summer you don't need to take it then, but you do not seem to be getting sun so I advise you take it year-round. It depends...: This depends on how much vit d you get from the sun. In spring & summer about 10 minutes of exposure to midday sun allows us to make enough d if you don't use sunscreen. Vitamin D level: Knowing your vitamin d level would be helpful. If you are deficient (and depending how deficient), you will need supplementation so that you can get your level back to normal. If your vitamin d level is normal, then you may want a maintenance dose. D3 is cholecalciferol, a standard form that is taken orally. D2 is ergocalciferol, if taken is in a large 50k international unit (iu) dose once weekly.

Not known.: Very little is known about vitamin d3 and pd; & what is known suggests that only some might benefit depending on their genes. Vitamin d deficiency should be treated per se. Why are you so hot for untried/unproved remedies? You're not doing your aunt a service with your random unsystematic approach. She'll benefit most from an informed collaborative partnership with her doctor assisted by you.
