The right question: Nutrition plays a huge role in RA & other autoimmune diseases.  Add a good multivitamin and also take a look at your diet.  The book "digestive wellness" is a good resource for looking at how certain foods can at least make RA worse, perhaps play even a more direct role.  Dairy & gluten are the 'usual suspects' but for some it may be soy, etc. Vegetables, fruits are key in an antiinflammatory diet.

Probably not: Rheumatoid arthritis is unfortunately a degenerative condition. The current treatment to prevent long term degeneration is starting dmards (disease modifying treatment) early on to prevent the serious problems from before. I usually recommend the 4 -6 grams of omega 3, glucosamine with chondroitan, curcumin as adjunctive treatment along with the mediterreaen diet and exercise.

i'm using plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) 200mg and prednisone 10mg for rheumatoid arthritis, can i take vitamin c while using these medications.

Re-evaluate: If you are having fatigue, joint swelling and pain while on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) and Prednisone you may want to re-evaluate your total treatment. Vitamin c with bioflavanoids together with a high quality curcurmin and boswelia can block histamine and cytokines found elevated in rheumatoid arthritis. It is also helpful to eat foods that are anti-inflammatory,  optimize vit d3, and manage stress skillfully.

Bad: Ra is an inflammotry disorder, characterized by high levels of CRP in the body.  CRP does not cause the damge, but is the best surrogate marker for inflammation in the body, particularly the blood stream.  Inflammation hurts the ling of blood vessels and increases the tendency to deposit cholesterol plaques.  It raises clotting factors, such as fibrinogen which makes the blood more liely to clot!

Back pain: This could be all muscle, but you do have risk factors for occult fracture because of your rheumatoid.  TYLENOL (acetaminophen) OR Motrin for starters.  You should have a low threshold to get checked if not improving.
