are visible blue veins on chest serious? i noticed it about a week ago, i looked back at pictures and noticed the vein has been visable for over a year, i am now.fixated on it and worried it's superior vena cava syndrome?

Quite rare.: You are very tuned in, to understand the SVC syndrome is a possibility, although rare.  It merits a visit to a cardiologist who can take a careful history, perform a physical exam and arrange appropriate studies including an EKG, chest X-rays and an echocardiogram to search for an answer as to the cause of prominent veins.

Normal finding: I am amazed about how often I have women ask me about the veins on their breast.  Occasionally they are spider veins but mostly they are blue veins.  These are almost always normal findings and normal variations of chest veins.  They tend to be more pronounced in fair skinned females and they may be related to hereditary factors or even pregnancies.  No treatment is necessary unless for cosmetics.

Positional: When you place your arms and legs lower than your heart, they fill and become prominent. When they're above your heart, they collapse and appears as "streaks." Also, when you're well tanned, they're less visible. AS your tan fades, you see them better. Darker veins are NOT a sign of disease!

Unlikely: Breast cancer will rarely cause venous problem like you have. It is more related to circulation. Have your primary care doctor monitor the veins for any further enlargement or any new veins showing up which may justify checking your circulation(veins and arteries in the chest wall and in the left arm region. Nothing immediately worrisome.

Pregnant??: You could be pregnant. You should take a test and follow up with a doctor as your symptoms may be from pregnancy.
