Easy access shelf: If baby is stable enough at birth many ob's use this as an easy shelf &way for mom to see baby as the cord is cut. Given the stealth nature of babies existence in the preceding 9mo it helps with the bonding process. Some also do the skin to skin experience but a lot of this depends on the comfort level of mom/ob and stability of the baby.

Depends on time: the answer depends on the time of use of MJ. if used during pregnancy, baby could have growth issues, and/or withdrawals. if used after delivery, and not breastfeeding, baby usually not affected.

Use : Use of methamphetamine during pregnancy can increase the fetusâ€™ and the mothers heart rate. The fetus may receive less oxygen. Oxygen is required for the fetus to grow. So the baby may have a lower birth rate.  Use of methamphetamine is associated with higher rates of miscarriage, the placenta tearing and premature labor.   Many women who abuse methamphetamine, do so throughout their pregnancies. This can cause the poor baby to be born with a methamphetamine addiction. The baby can go into withdrawal after birth and have symptoms like difficulty feeing, difficulty sleeping and tremors. Some studies have suggested an association with learning disorders. 
      I do not know the statistics for complications for a woman who used methamphetamine the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. However, one thing is clear, if the mother returns to methamphetamine use, there is significant potential for harm to the fetus. I hope that the mother becomes involved in narcotics anonymous. The mother also needs to be scrupulously honest with the obstetrician about her illicit drug use.

Safe: It all depends on the proper diet and blood sugar control.  Your doctor will monitor you closely.  Good blood sugar control before conception is very important.

Drug testing: Drug testing as delivery is not a standard practice at delivery. A doctor may order it based on any suspicion of substance abuse. Hospitals may have protocols in place for testing based on certain risk factors or reported past use.

Yes: Genital herpes ( herpes simplex  type 2) can be transmitted to a newborn at birth resulting in potentially serious infections.  Herpes simplex  type 1 is the cold sore and can be transmitted with skin to skin contact like kissing.

i am feeling a little over whelmed with life at the moment after giving birth to my 3rd child. adapting to be a mother of 3 is stressing me out along with work, feel stuck, financial troubles and married life. is this signs of depression?

Depression : There are many things that have occurred in your life after giving birth. Including hormonal changes, sleep deprivation due to taking care of a newborn, changing roles and getting time to take care of your other two children, economical difficulties, etc. Speak to your physician about what you are experiencing to see if it can be addressed through diet, meditation or if other support is required.

Anemia: This is a rather common problem that usually reflects poor iron intake in the diet. There are other potential causes but this  one is usually treated with diet change to include foods rich in iron and an OTC iron supplement. Once you are anemic it can take several months on the proper supplements to get back into the normal range. Discuss it with the doc who labeled you.

Likely not: I have not heard of this association, and there would not likely be much research to look at this.

6 months: Babies under 6 months of age should be kept out of direct sunlight. Move your baby to the shade under a tree, umbrella or stroller canopy. It is okay to apply a small amount of sunscreen on infants under 6 months if there is no way to avoid the sun. Remember it takes 15-30 minutes to be effective.
Dress babies in lightweight clothing that covers the arms and legs, and use brimmed hats.
