when being drug tested in the hospital at the time of giving birth, will you be tested only for narcotics and controlled substances?

Accepted Answer

It depends: It depends upon if your OB has concerns that you have been using narcotics or controlled substances during pregnancy.  Some hospitals have protocols that they follow to identify women who need to be drug tested. Best to discuss with your OB your concerns.

can i be forced to breastfeed after giving birth? made informed choice to ff. also, can i bring my own formula to hospital?

Feeding: You have the choice to do what you wish with your child. No one can force you to breast feed. I doubt very much if the hospital would allow you to bring in your own formula. Good luck.

what will happen if i dont get the rh injection before giving birth? with a second child. becouse iv been running up and down to hospital. bt no shot of injection. im close to give birth?

Accepted Answer

: Rhogam (Rh Injection) is usually given ~28 wks and after birth to O negative mothers when the baby is found to be Rh positive. If the baby is negative it can be skipped.

is it safe to travel 4 hours to home with my new born after giving birth and being discharged from hospital? my partner will be driving me. my home is 4 hours away from the hospital i will give birth to. can i travel for 4 hours with my new born-1day

Yes: The baby will likely tolerate the trip better than you will. I see no problem at all with such a trip.

what cause high blood pressure after giving birth? not sure if i should go to the hospital. i have not been diagnosed with preeclampsia.

Post partum high BP: Even though you did not have elevated blood pressure prior to delivery, it is still possible immediately post partum to have pre-eclampsia(Pregnancy induced hypertension- PIH). If you are more than 4 weeks post partum then other causes of high blood pressure should be investigated by your MD, as you should see him/her as soon as possible.

yesterday i was at the public hospital and i was advised that i am 24 weeks pregnant. however, the doctor's scan says i am 26 weeks and giving birth on the 6th of feb 2018. the hospital wrote the edd as the 6th of february. should i be worried, as i ?

No : No worries ,the later you do the scan in pregnancy it happens ,not a big deal

From depo: One of the common side effects from Depo-Provera especially in the first 6 months is irregular bleeding. The longer you are on Depo-Provera the less likely you are to bleed. Just watch the bleeding unless its really heavy and get your next Depo-Provera on time.

right before giving birth, i weighed 181 lbs. after leaving the hospital i was 166 lbs & now i weigh 179lbs at 2 months postpartum. i am breastfeeding & supplementing with formula. what could be causing rapid weight gain postpartum?

You likely: have insulin resistance/carbohydrate sensitivity, causing the weight gain and fluid retention. This can lead to diabetes.  You need to be tested for insulin resistance, with a 3 hr glucose tolerance test, and insulin levels. Talk to your doctor or specialist in Diabetes/endocrinology.  Thyroid abnormalities also could be a cause, as well.

Sometimes: I always caution my patients about the varied information available on the internet. I usually refer patients to acog, the mayo clinic, and pregnancy weekly for reliable sources of information. Keep in mind, that every pregnancy and delivery experience is different. My hope for my patients, is that i can guide them through in the safest and easiest manner that is appropriate for them.

No: It does not affect life expectancy.
