Respiratory, sedatio: Versed also knownas Midazolam casues a decrease in respiratory rate, sedation and can drop blood pressure. It should be used carefully and in monitored situations.

Experience counts...: Conscious sedation often combines versed (sleep agent that induces amnesia) with narcotic (typically fentanyl) with resulting prolonged sleepiness  after your procedure. Mac (monitored anesthesia care) relies instead on Propofol (a rapid onset drug that wears off within minutes). Any sedative's risks are best reduced by close supervision by a qualified practitioner ; appropriate patient selection.

Interaction Check: We don't have Coversyl here in the U.S, but it's in the drug class called ACE inhibitors, of which we have many. ACE inhibitors should not interact with fentanyl+midazolam that you will be receiving for your procedure. However, make sure your dentist knows you're on a ACE inhibitor.Unrelated to your question,any dentist using sedation should have resuscitative equipment and supplies in the office.

Usually quickly. : These meds typically wear off in a matter of a few hours (can be significantly longer if you have kidney disease) but you can feel groggy for a day. You should be back to normal the next day. If not see your dr.

Yes: Versed, the trade name for the generic midazolam, is a benzodiazepine drug, used to break status epilepticus (where seizures are continuous and uncontrollable).  So, yes, midazolam will effect epilepsy by helping break an episode.  Obviously, because it is a sedative drug, other anti-epileptic medications are preferred to prevent attacks.

Effective: Midazolam (brand versed) is a short acting benzodiazepine.  In the U.S. It is used primarily as a pre-anesthesia agent.  It comes in a syrup form to use with children and an injectable form.  It must be used in a controlled environment such as er or surgery suite. It can cause retrograde amnesia in some patents. When properly administered and monitored it can be quite useful.

Versed and Fentanyl: The half life of fentanyl is about seven hours.  The half life of versed is more variable, about 2 - 6 hours.  In 5 half lives, or 10 - 35 hours, both drugs will be largely eliminated.  Chronic users may eliminate the drugs more slowly as they may have fat storeage of the drugs before colonoscopy.

Yes: Versed calms nerves prior to surgery, used frequently, & is apparently safe. The beauty of the drug is that it has a retrograde amnesiac effect so patients don't remember much from the preop area as well as moving into the operating room suite.

i'm getting a colonoscopy and i know versed erases your memory. is there an alternative?

Excellent drug: Midazolam or versed is a sedative- hypnotic with amnestix qualities. It does not supply retrograde amnesia so it does not erase your memory of events already passed but gives antegrade amnesia so you may not remember what happens during the procedure. If you want to be aware if the procedure and remember everything, doing it wide awake and without any sedation is the only sure way.
