i have recently realized that on my left leg there is a vein that pops out when i put weight on my leg. i had completely forgotten about it for weeks till yesterday when my leg started pinching slightly. should i be worried if i am joining the army?

Prominent vein: A prominent lower leg vein on weight bearing isn't necessarily a problem but could indicate an inadequate valve in that vein. Do you have a family history of varicose veins? Pain, tenderness,and leg swelling would be worrisome signs of phlebitis and you don't have any of these symptoms.

May be normal: Baby's skin is very thin and thus veins can be obvious. Veins are normally greenish. If the "veins" you mentioned are of different color, your  friendly pediatrician maybe able to help you.

See vein specialist: A swollen leg vein may be a varicose vein or it could be a clotted vein.  It is difficult to determine from what you describe.  Clotted superficial veins are usually tender and this is called superficial phlebitis.  Varicose veins are usually not tender. Regardless, either type of vein is not normal.  You should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation.

Needs evaluation: Vein should not hurt.  If you have a bulging veins and it is tender, then this is suggestive of superficial phlebitis.  You should see a vein specialist for an evaluation.  Warm compresses and Ibuprofen may help but this should be evaluated.
