Dont touch it: Scabs are dry blood they fll off when they are ready removing them prematurely will only restart the healing process.

Need more info: How deep is the wound.? How old is the wound? Where is it located? Must keep the wound clean. To minimize visible scarring need to see a doctor to see if it can be closed with fine sutures or surgical glue. If it is more than 24-48 hrs old then may have to allow to close on its own. Keeping it clean is very imporant.

i have scab from my facial surgery. i've been using vaseline for 2 weeks now but scab is still there. how long should i apply vaseline? should i just leave it alone? im trying to avoid scarring. thanks?

: Unfortunately, scars from injury or even surgery are permanent, and do not change with "vasoline", but on occasion, a plastic surgical approach can make a replacement scar look less obvious.

hi. i had alarplasty last march. one side hasn't fully healed. it's been 36 days. i have been using vaseline (to prevent scarring). it has formed a little scab so i can not use scar gels yet? shall i continue using vaseline or just leave it alone?

: Have you asked the operating surgeon this question?  I recommend not using Vaseline at this time and instead would recommend applying aquaphor,a moisturizing agent.

got electrocautery done on broken capillaries on my nose, scab came off and now the area is very red. what should i do? my dermatologist had recommended putting vaseline on until the scab came off but it does not look fully healed-was done 7 days ago?

: If there is a wound there, you could apply an antibiotic ointment, like bacitracin or triple antibiotic ointment. This will keep it from getting infected. You should also avoid sun exposure. If it is not getting better over the next few days, call the doctor who did the procedure to take a look at it. Good luck!

Irritant: I have seen a few patients who have similar symptoms after using whitening toothpaste.  If you do use it, consider stopping its use.  Consider stopping using lipstick for a couple of weeks if whitening toothpaste does not apply in your case.  Other potential causes? Mouthwash and any other chemical product used in the mouth,
