not really: Valium (diazepam) is a benzodiazepine tranquilizer.  Although it helps with sleep, it is mainly for anxiety and muscle relaxation, and can be taken during the day if prescribed that way.  Ambien (zolpidem) is chemically different, only used for sleep, never during the day, and is not a tranquilizer (anxiety reducer).  Valium is also habit-forming, Ambien less so (but can be too).

Prescribed or not?: If you are on prescribed benzodiazepines, your doctor and pharmacist should be the best ones to give you advice, since they know your medical history and all the medications you are on, and I do not. If they are NOT prescribed, you shouldn't be taking them.  Valium is very rapidly acting and should be enough to help you sleep without the ambien (zolpidem). If not prescribed, this is abuse. Talk to counselor.

Do not: Use these two medications together!  They are too close to having the same properties to use at the same time.  Valium is a benzodiazepine used as a sedative, muscle relaxor and antiaxiety medication and Ambien (zolpidem) is a hypnotic/sedative.  A combination of the both could cause breathing problems and could be fatal.

Ambien (zolpidem): Ambien (zolpidem) should be taken no longer than a few days in a row. You need to coordinate your care with one MD if you have access to 3 different CNS depressant medications.  Respiratory depression can occur. Also all have withdrawal states and can precipitate clinical depression.

GABA and benzos: You are responding better to your sleep problem because while diazepam is a GABA agonist like Zolpidem, the latter is a Z pill with more sedative effect for insomnia. Diazepam works better for anxiety and as a muscle relaxant.

Ask your doctor: Dd your doctor prescribe these to be taken all at once? The combo of valium and Ambien is deadly. Please don't take them together tonight, and call your doctor in the morning. As for Depakote and saphris, (asenapine) do take these as going without could cause a relapse of your bipolar disorder. Be well.

Yes: Valium and Ambien (zolpidem) will potentiate each other, but the combination should be safe.

could having rapidly detoxed off of  80mgs a day of valium  + xanax (alprazolam) as needed  and 10mgs of ambien a night trigger narcolepsy down the line?

No: No.  Rapid detox from these meds will not cause narcolepsy down the line.

You. May: Why did your. Dr stop ambien (zolpidem)?   You. Did not tell your. Age .  Why did your dr start  valium?   If you needed something. For. Anxiety. Lorazepam. Would have been better .  In my opinion  both drugs are in the end are monster but if you had to take one. Take the one. Which helps you with least side effects .  I would not take both just to sleep .Valium can give you more problems if you had to stop.
