Varies: Most women are completely healed in 4 weeks.  Some physicians advise pelvic rest (no sex) for up to 8 weeks just to be safe.

A defect, not a tear: The healing of a vaginal cuff after vaginal hysterectomy is not always predictable or may not be complete or smooth for  several weeks after surgery. A defect in the vaginal scar may on occasions occur without symptoms but it would be rather unlikely although not impossible that a "cuff tear" would take place without bleeding ".

Depends: That can partly depend on the type of suture that was used with your hysterectomy.  The most common types are usually pretty much dissolved by 90 days.  However, if you are not having any bleeding or irregular discharge, there should be nothing to worry about.

Could be serious: This is a rare but possible complication after robotic hysterectomy. If this happens, seek medical care immediately, as this is an emergency that would require immediate surgical correction.

: If the anal sex is forceful it could cause the bleeding due to the close proximity. If that is the case, stop any manipulation in the anogenital area then bleeding should stop then you should consult your GYN doctor when you can have sex again. Good luck.

after supercervical hysterectomy the cervix is left. is this sewn shut? where does sperm go? i know when you have a total - there is a vaginal cuff made. what is made for cervix remaining to keep sperm out and away from ovaries?

: During a "partial" or supracervical hysterectomy, the uterus is removed leaving the cervix in  place. The stump of the uterus, past the cervix, is closed so nothing from outside the body can get into the body (including sperm).

total hysterectomy after adenocarcinoma in situ was found on cervix. hpv 16 positive. what is the likelihood of having this return on vaginal cuff or other places?

Not likely: Treatment for Adeno CA is with a cold knife cone biopsy - and with clear margins - that would be completion of treatment - and if you had a Total Hysterectomy - which includes the full cervix - you should be fine - but make sure you and your ob/gyn look at the pathology report

Needs follow up: This is a complex situation with lots of possibilities. The fever should be addressed first since that could be caused by so many things. Then your gynecologist can assess the vaginal cuff. You may have granulation tissue, scar tissue, pelvic adhesions or a number of other issues which can be addressed.

Blood + bacteria: These are among the most common complications after hysterectomy.  Cellulitis probably occurs (mild) after most hysterectomies.  Abscess is reported at +/-5% of cases, but most see it less frequently in the real world.  Usually no avoidable cause is found (other than avoiding surgery). Most important is prompt diagnosis and proper treatment.

why would an abscess form one year after hysterectomy?

Unsure: By a few weeks after a hysterectomy, the recovery is generally complete.  An abscess that forms a year after a hysterectomy is probably not related to the hysterectomy.
