Depends: Even if not infected, an imbalance in vaginal ph can cause odor. The antibiotic Metronidazole works well. So does clindamycin. They both will re-establih the normal bacterial balance in the vagina and help eliminate odor.

Perfumes &amp; soaps: If body washes, perfumes, or FDS sprays are being used in the vaginal area, bacteria can sometimes react to them. However, a bacterial infection is the most common reason for odor and the worst reason is a retained old tampon.

No: Yeast infections cause a whitish discharge with itching and burning.  Bacterial vaginosis causes a discolored discharge with burning and and odor.  Bv is usually treated with prescription medication, so a visit to your doctor to diagnose  would be a great idea.

the last few months i have noticed an abnormal vaginal odor. it is not fishy and only appears at the middle/end of the day and goes away after showering? could it still be an infection? its strong.my discharge is normal besides being a bit watery?

Probably not...: Fluconazole probably won't help with the problem of vaginal odor.  Vaginal odor is frequently cause by something called Bacterial Vaginosis.  If it persists, you may need to see your Gyn for an exam to get the correct diagnosis and an antibiotic.  Best wishes!

Bacterial vaginosis: The most common vaginal infection is bacterial vaginosis which occurs when the normal good bacteria in the vagina, peroxidase positive lactobaccillus, are killed off (many things can do this including douching). The most common symptom is a vaginal odor which worsens with intercourse. It would not be tested for when in your annual exam and is not considered an STD.
