Bacterial vaginosis: The most common vaginal infection is bacterial vaginosis which occurs when the normal good bacteria in the vagina, peroxidase positive lactobaccillus, are killed off (many things can do this including douching). The most common symptom is a vaginal odor which worsens with intercourse. It would not be tested for when in your annual exam and is not considered an STD.

Tests negative: Every woman has a distinctive vaginal odoe: unless this is foul or accompanied by dischage, this is normal. Sometimes a once weekly water/bicarbonate disposable douche is helpful. Make sure you have been screen for all STDs and common female infections.

Douching is not recommended . It runs a risk of ascending infection and increases the risk of tubal pregnancy. Otherwise, I am in agreement with Dr. Miller.
