Yeast or BV: The discharge you are describing is a common symptom of either yeast infection (candida) or bacterial vaginosis.  Both are very common and treatable.
This could also be a sign of a sexually transmitted infection (esp if you have had sex without a condom), your provider may or may not have tested for these with the pap.  Follow up with the provider who did the pap for definitive diagnosis/treatment

Why avoid the MD?: Vaginal discharge can be due to an infection.  Not knowing you have an infection can lead to complications.   Assuming this is not just a normal period i would recommend you get it checked out so it can be treated properly.  Seeing a doctor in an office will be way less expensive than ending up in an ER with a complication that might need surgery or worse.

Brown discharge: Brown discharge indicates oxidized blood, and may occur normally at "9 days after period", and be due to estrogen dropping just prior to ovulation.  Many times two eggs mature simultaneously, making more estrogen than usual, so the drop can cause minor bleeding at the time of ovulation.

Many sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc) can also cause this.  For discharge that lasts more than a few days, especially if it burns, itches, or hurts, see your doctor.
