Varies: Most women are completely healed in 4 weeks.  Some physicians advise pelvic rest (no sex) for up to 8 weeks just to be safe.

A defect, not a tear: The healing of a vaginal cuff after vaginal hysterectomy is not always predictable or may not be complete or smooth for  several weeks after surgery. A defect in the vaginal scar may on occasions occur without symptoms but it would be rather unlikely although not impossible that a "cuff tear" would take place without bleeding ".

how long after hysterectomy can it take for vaginal cuff stitches to dissolve? i'm 11 1/2 weeks post op and still have some.

Depends: That can partly depend on the type of suture that was used with your hysterectomy.  The most common types are usually pretty much dissolved by 90 days.  However, if you are not having any bleeding or irregular discharge, there should be nothing to worry about.

Could be serious: This is a rare but possible complication after robotic hysterectomy. If this happens, seek medical care immediately, as this is an emergency that would require immediate surgical correction.

i am 5 weeks post op after a hysterectomy with a vaginal cuff. i had anal sex. i have slight bleeding from the vaginal area. is this normal?

: If the anal sex is forceful it could cause the bleeding due to the close proximity. If that is the case, stop any manipulation in the anogenital area then bleeding should stop then you should consult your GYN doctor when you can have sex again. Good luck.

after supercervical hysterectomy the cervix is left. is this sewn shut? where does sperm go? i know when you have a total - there is a vaginal cuff made. what is made for cervix remaining to keep sperm out and away from ovaries?

: During a "partial" or supracervical hysterectomy, the uterus is removed leaving the cervix in  place. The stump of the uterus, past the cervix, is closed so nothing from outside the body can get into the body (including sperm).

Needs follow up: This is a complex situation with lots of possibilities. The fever should be addressed first since that could be caused by so many things. Then your gynecologist can assess the vaginal cuff. You may have granulation tissue, scar tissue, pelvic adhesions or a number of other issues which can be addressed.

Less invasive: An advantage of vaginal hysterectomy is the lack of a large abdominal incision.  Without that incision, there is usually less post-operative pain, so patients may return to regular activities more quickly and comfortably.

i'm 8 weeks post total vaginal hysterectomy and i'm having unusual white stringy  discharge.  is this a normal part of healing?

Possibly.: However, if it's persistent and there is a lot, it won't hurt to give your surgeon a call and see if he or she would like to take a look to make sure there's no infection. Take care!

Yes, anything is: Possible, but some things are not advisable.  It depends on a lot of things, but i would not advise you to do it.  Ask your doctor who knows much more about you for specific advice.
