hello, i received an antibiotic for a really bad uti for five days and today im due to take the last one. im still having issues feeling like i have to pee and lower pain in my left pelvic area. my urine looks clear. no sure how to proceed?

: How diagnosed? If a clean catch urine was analyzed and a culture used to determine  the antibiotic used you may be fine. If the label UTI was assumed with minimal or no testing you may have a totally different problem in your genital tract requiring a different approach. I would contact your treating doc and consider a follow-up visit.

On the right meds?: Most start getting relief within 24 hours of taking antibiotics. A particularly bad infection can cause a lot of inflammation in the bladder, and some urinary symptoms may continue for several days despite clearing the bacteria. If you have no improvement, your antibiotic might not be working, and you'll have to go back to your doctor to check culture results to find the appropriate antibiotic.

i have uti for two weeks now it says it usually last couple days and its been two weeks and its still positive and i already took the medicine and it didnt do anything what should i do?

: Make sure your doctor has this information then follow her advice. Most likely the bacteria causing your UTI is resistant to the antibiotic you were prescribed. The bacteria from your positive culture can be tested to determine which antibiotics are active against it, guiding your doctor on what to use for re-treatment. Good luck.

i have taken five days of 500 mg twice a day for a uti in the past. my new doctor only prescribed it for three days. will it work or do i need to take it for five days?

Most likely: It depends which medication was prescribed. If you were given ciprofloxacin, the typical course is 3 to 5 days. 3 days will typically suffice for a UTI.

i had sex with someone, a week later she got uti symptoms. she took bactrim, it cleared in 2 days, and has remained good for about 5 days after the last dose. is she going to be ok? i'm getting tested obviously but what else could have caused it?

: Intercourse is one factor that leads to recurrent UTI's in some women. The activity involves their pee outlet &amp; the mechanics of sex can introduce germs at the pee outlet. Many can reduce their rate of recurrence by emptying their bladder after intercourse, which can clear out some of the potential invaders. You don't give her a UTI, but the sex can increase the risk.

6 days ago, i was prescribed amoxicillin (20 pills, taken every 12 hours) for a uti. i forgot to take the last few doses. do i start taking them now?

UTI: A young woman with a uti generally can tell whether her infection has resolved. However to be sure a clean catch urine culture and colony count would have to done. If you feel perfectly normal when you urinate, I wouldn't bother taking the rest of the amoxicillin since you skipped a couple of days.

Probably cured: If you had typical symptoms (usually painful and urgent urination, frequent urination, etc) and they have cleared up entirely, you can safely assume the threatment worked and your are cured. If in doubt, check with the doctor treating you.

my doc prescribed me monuril for uncomplicated uti, took last night but still feel disconfort one day later. should i wait a little more or should i contact her and tell her that? how many days would it take to feel ok if the monuril worked?

Give it time: Wait a few more days. It usually takes 2-3 days for UTI symptoms to start to improve, and up to a week for them to clear up entirely.

Unlikely: If you had sex since your last period, you could be pregnant. Get blood test for HCG level to settle the issue.

i have uti. doc prescribed cefdinir. its 300 mg once a day for five days. i am 4 foot 3 inches and 60 pounds. should that be enough to help? i get gi issues with many antibiotics so assume its based on my weight and all. thank you?

: This med is metabolized in such a way it is concentrated in the urine. It is prescribed with this in mind. I would not worry about your weight.
