I do not thing so?: Not to have medial collateral ligament of the knee from congenital reason, I do not find case in the liteleture. To have torn mcl it is very possible, and you could function with it but this effect the knee and cause arthritis early beside other problems.

ACL MCL: Acl is the anterior cruciate ligament, mcl is the medial collateral ligament. The acl is intraarticular ( inside the joint) while the mcl is a large broad extra articular ligament. This allows the mcl to heal on its own whereas the acl does not. Tear of the acl is the most common cause of knee instability. They usually require surgery / reconstruction if the patient experiences knee giving way.

U cannot, but: U cannot "strengthen" your acl and mcl.However, you can strengthen your quadriceps that helps control your knee and also work on specific proprioceptive exersises(coordination type) that are sport-specific.This may lessen the chance of acl injury but this is somewhat controversial.Good luck!

Several: First what is the severity? Step one after injury is ice, elevation and compression. Crutches may be necessary if your a limping. Next, obtain pain free range of motion. Progressive strengthening follows with closed chain exercises and open chain.  Once your strength is 80% of the normal side you can begin jogging then a running progression. How long it takes to get back depends on the severity.

Complete tear: Grade 1 is a mild sprain. Grade 2 is a partial tear, and grade 3 represrents a complete tear with demosntrable instability on exam. Bracing and physical therapy usually work with adequate soft tissue rest (ice , elevation, and limited activity) to allow swollen knee to calm down.

An acl tear generally causes bleeding in the knee joint caused by tearing the blood vessels around the acl. This causes a very fast swelling of the knee joint (usually without the hour). An isolated mcl tear usually does not swell inside the knee and causes pain on the inner portion of the knee, where the mcl tore.
