If a physician is interested in getting urine from a woman's bladder that has not been contaminated by passing through the vagina, which normally contains bacteria and white blood cells, the sample should be collected by asking the woman to use a antiseptic towelette to wipe the vagina while spreading the inner labia, then to urinate into the toilet for a second, stop urinating, then urinate into the specimen cup. If you didn't collect the urine in this manner, then it's more than likely that the white blood cells are from the vagina, not the bladder as are the bacteria and the leuk esterase. If it is noted that there were squamous epithelial cells in the urine, then it's even more likely, because those cells are found only in the vagina, not the bladder. Back pain is a common symptom, and occasionally it is the sole symptom of a urinary tract infection, but not usually. Most of the time people with utis will have pain on urination or frequency of urination, fevers, or pain on the sides of their back. If you have any of these (fever, urinary pain or frequency, or pain on the sides of your back) or if the middle back pain persists for more than a week, you should see a doctor. But the biggest thing here is, the physician who ordered the urine test should be available and eager to answer your question.

: Urine is composed of various waste products of metabolism. When left overnight I would expect various salts of urate to form which may be seen as a cloudy change. With normal test results I see this as all normal. Discuss it with your doctor. I cannot see any reason to worry about the information posted.

: Creatinine may be falsely elevated in individuals with high muscular mass and/or high protein intake as shown in many studies. Your weightlifting history suggests that the borderline high creatinine may be proportional to your muscular mass rather than expressing early kidney damage.

Q: if the kidney is malfunctioning, would the calcium in the 24 hour urine calcium be high or below the reference values? please explain.

Unknown: depends on the cause of the malfunction and duration and residual kidney function.

Yes: But minute, insignificant amounts. With severe kidney failure [uremia] the amount is greater.

See your doctor...: A urine creatinine of 1.3 is extremely low, so i suspect that you meant to say that your serum creatinine was 1.3. A GFR of 55 equates to stage one chronic kidney disease. While chronic kidney damage usually cannot be reversed, you can prevent further damage by eating right, controlling your blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and seeing your physician. Good luck!

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, additional information about serum creatitnine, urine protein, blood pressure, diabetic state etc. need to be considered. It would be prudent to consult a kidney specialist.

Alkalosis: CO2 goes up in the blood if you are dehydrated and have vomited, have severe lung disease such as emphysema, have low potassium, are on diuretics or antacids or are leaking acid into the urine due to various hormonal problems.  The slight increase in your CO2 is insignificant and I do not think it is any thing to worry about.
