i developed urinary retention after hernia surgery.i got a catheter two weeks. infection after that (enterococcus faecalis). three weeks with antibiotics. still urinary retention. what can be the cause of the urinary retention?

: The urinary retention after surgery is often triggered by the anesthetic medication. But, the reason it is continuing may be due to an enlarged prostate or some other factor. You should see a urologist, if you haven’t already. If you have an enlarged prostate, there are medicines that can help. Good luck to you!

got urine retention after inguinal hernia surgery. i have been asked three times to not urinate for 2 hours before uroflowmetry test. i had 824 ml in my bladder before the test and i could only evacuate 500 ml. can these tests damage bladder/kidneys?

: No the tests do not damage Kidneys or bladder. If you had no problems voiding before surgery your normal urination should return 4-6 weeks after surgery.

what  are the  odds of  urinary  retention taking  bicalutimide  right  after green light surgery?

Accepted Answer

Low.: Bicalutimide, or casodex, (bicalutamide) should have minimal effect on your chance of urinary retention. Retention is much more likely to be influenced by the degree of urinary obstruction preoperatively, and the degree of inflammation, swelling, bleeding, and scaring after greenlight photovaporization (pvp) of the prostate. Hopefully, the procedure with help prevent this from happening.

Urinary retention: Variable,often due to perineal pain wich diminishes with time,ensure there is no concomitant UTI,assumes no other comorbid conditions,consult the surgeon or a urologist if it persists ;likewise if pain is marked have surgery reassess the site.

i have urinary retention after bladder sling surgery. doctor tried to surgically fix it but still can not void. what can i do?

Second opinion: Releasing the sling is a simple procedure and should have worked.
It often results in leakage again but not always.
The only time i've seen this in a patient w/o a preexisting problem
that did not reapond to release was when the patient was very anxious.  This will require further evaluation by a doc who has more experience with slings than it sounds like yours might
after releasing i'd stretch it.

had cauda equina, nerve pressed, did surgery but still got urinary retention, week before did mri which was fine.why i am suffering having normal blader?

Inflammation: The surgery likely caused some inflammation to surrounding nerves (expected and to some degree unavoidable).  It should improve if that is all it is; i would talk to your neurosurgeon about appropriate timing of improvement.

Fluid: Fluid (called seroma) can build up in the empty space where the hernia had been. Also the tissues around the surgical site can become temporarily swollen and firm. This fluid formation is common, is more noticeable after repair of larger hernias, and resolves over several days to a few weeks.

Depends: Off of what? Work? Usually can return to light work in about a week but need about 6 weeks before doing full heavy work & exercises. Ask your surgeon for their specific instructions for your specific situation.

Variable: The normal postop course depends on the type if hernia and technique of repair. All hernia repairs are typically associated with progressively diminishing pain at the incision site, and sometimes a variety of aches that may be associated with position during the operation. Accepted Answer

Probably: The hernia operations will not impact your husband's ability to make and deliver sperm, unless there was a complication such as cutting or blocking the tube that delivers sperm, which would be quite rare. Hope this helps!
