It's normal: Ureaplasma parvum is one of a group of bacteria called mycopasmas. U. parvum is entirely normal and harmless, commonly found in healthy person's genital tracts. Unless there are symptoms or other signs of genital infection, this doesn't need treatment. STD experts never test for it.

Maybe miscarriages: Ureaplasma & mycoplasma hominis have been implicated in single miscarriages or recurrent pregnancy losses. The studies are not high quality, but it's relatively cheap and easy to give a course of antibiotics to women who have had one or more miscarriages, & their partners. Mycoplasma genitalium may be a cause pelvic inflammatory disease (pid). See a rei specialist if ttc without success.

Bacteria: Ureaplasma urealyticum is a bacterium belonging to the family Mycoplasmataceae. Its type strain is T960. U. urealyticum is part of the normal genital flora of both men and women. It is found in about 70% of sexually active humans. there is no linkage with any other infections but one can have both infections simultaneously.

Ureaplasma: Ureaplasma is a bacterium which is usually acquired from sexual activity, and may be accompanied by other infectious agents.  See your gyn provider for an exam, culture  and treatment if pelvic pain, urinary frequency and painful intercourse have occurred.

Vaginal discomfort: There could be many causes of your symptoms.  Are you taking antibiotics for the infections?  If so, you may not be targeting  the infection that is causing the symptoms. Should be: Yes. This is the classic medication and medication dose and treatment length for this particular bacteria so you should be fine. If you are still having symptoms when you finish your antibiotics, it is possible you may need further treatment and you should let your doctor know as soon as possible, but this is not common.

hello drs and thank you. sorry for my ignorance. if mycoplasma/ureaplasma are normal bacteria in body, how it is related to mycoplasma genitalium/ureaplasa parvum?  the stds sound very serious and far from normal. should i also get tested for these?

: Don't believe everything you find online! M genitalium is the only one of these that frequently causes health problems, and its only proved problem is nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) in males. In women cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease are suspected, but not yet proved to result from M genitalium. M hominis, U urealyticum and U parvum are harmless normal bacteria in the genital tract.

Yes: It can kill sperm or make their progress through the vagina more difficult. If the bacteria get into the Fallopian tubes by whatever means, they can cause salpingitis which can in severe forms block the Fallopian tubes.

Unlikely: While theoretically possible, i've never heard of bacterial vaginosis causing infertility.  It's very common, so if it did cause infertility, that would be a lot of women affected.  Sometimes it can go undiagnosed for a long time. So long as you've treated it now, though, you should be fine.

how long does bacterial vaginosis have to go untreated before it causes serious problems like infertility?

Doesn't cause: Bacterial vaginosis (bv) is too many of the 'wrong' bacteria and less of the 'good ones'. It is not a std/sexually transmitted disease, is treatable, and does not cause infertility. If you think you have BV see your ob/gyn for testing and treatment, if needed. S/he can also check for STDs like chlamydia, especially if you're under 26. See rei specialist if you're trying to conceive without success.
